Every river begins somewhere. Often high in the mountains, where rain collects or ice melts. From there, water starts its journey and grows, gaining speed, power, and voice!
Remy and I followed this journey in Iceland but in reverse (discover the photos here). We were standing at the foot of the Írárfoss waterfall, foothills of Mýrdalsjökull. Soaked in spray and noise, we looked up, wondering — where does all this water come from? So we started hiking from the Midskalagil Canyon and followed the flow, going upstream. The higher we climbed, the smaller the streams became. Until all that power came down to just a small stream, hidden between rocks and moss. We recorded all the sounds along the way.
The sliders are arranged from left to right. You start by hearing the waterfall from a distance, then getting closer, and finally going uphill, following the river and canyons. The last slider brings you to the tranquil stream; the birthplace of this entire water story.
This soundscape also serves as an audible reminder that big things often start small ;)
