myNoise®
myNoise is a website and a mobile application that offers a vast array of soundscapes and noise generators. These are designed to help with focus, relaxation, and sleep by creating an ambient sound environment tailored to your preferences.
myNoise stands out because it provides a unique and personal approach to soundscapes. It allows you to adjust the individual components of a soundscape to suit your personal needs. For instance, if you're listening to a forest ambiance, you can adjust the levels of bird sounds, wind, and rustling leaves independently to create a customized mix.
Use the search bar. You can search by name, or with keywords such as "rain", "nature" or "noise blocking". You can also browse the categories in the Discover screen.
We're aware that the search feature can be improved, and we intend to do so in future updates. In the meantime, if you're looking for one specific soundscape and can't find it, email us at ios@mynoise.net and we'll point you to it.
Finding the right soundscape for your use case can indeed be complicated. If you already know what kind of sound you're looking for, use the search bar or browse the categories in the Discover screen.
The truth is that the brain is complex, and the same soundscape will have totally different effects from one user to another. Some use the rain soundscapes to focus, others to relax, mask noise, or cover tinnitus…
We have tried to help you as best we can: when you open the app, you can select your use case, and the Discover screen will then suggest soundscapes recommended by other users for that specific purpose. But do explore the rest of our catalog too; you might find your perfect soundscape somewhere else entirely. And if you're still unsure, email us at ios@mynoise.net; we'll try our best to help.
We don't want to pretend to be pseudo-scientific gurus here. Instead, please think of myNoise as a toolbox: it's up to you to select what fits you best. It might take a little time, but the process is rewarding. We don't believe a single setting could work for everyone; the brain is far too complex, and what works for one person might not be ideal for another.
The best approach is to take it step by step. Start by exploring the different soundscapes to find the sounds you enjoy. Within a soundscape, discover the presets, which offer ready-made settings tuned for various purposes. Later on, you can explore more advanced features, such as Creation mode, which lets you build your own soundscape, or Animate, which introduces an endless variety of subtle variations into a soundscape.
Yes. Since spring 2026, Creation mode lets you build your own soundscape by combining up to 10 individual sounds taken from any myNoise soundscape. See "How do I create my own soundscape?" in the Features section for the step-by-step guide.
Nothing to worry about: there is nothing to cancel. Many apps ask you to set up a payment before your free trial even starts. We do things differently: every user gets 7 days of unlimited access when first opening the app, and we never ask for payment details. At the end of those 7 days, the app simply reverts to the free version, where 10 soundscapes remain available. You can unlock permanent full access by purchasing the app (a one-time purchase, not a subscription), if and when you decide to.
The "old" iOS app has been replaced by the new one for new users, but it will keep being maintained for everyone who bought it in the past. For more background behind this decision, please look at our blog posts from December 13th, 2023, and October 29th, 2024, here: https://mynoise.net/blog.php.
We released the new app as a separate app instead of replacing the old one. This allows previous users to keep their multigens, a feature the new app doesn't support. Replacing the old app would also have forced users to re-download their favorites and recreate their presets, which could have disrupted their sleep and health routines.
The old app is unlisted from the App Store but remains available to previous users, and all new soundscapes will keep being released there as well. You should always be able to download and use it by following these steps:
1. Open the App Store.
2. Tap your profile (top right corner).
3. Go into "Apps".
4. Go into "My Apps".
5. Select "Not on this phone".
The old myNoise app should appear in the list.
You'll be able to recover your previous purchases there. Premium access to the new app requires a separate purchase. If you have any questions about this, please reach out at ios@mynoise.net.
Donations on mynoise.net support the website and the creation of new soundscapes, while app purchases fund the development of the apps. Each platform needs to fund itself separately to ensure sustainability. Therefore, even if you're a patron of the website, you still need to unlock and pay for content on the mobile app. This "pay for what you use" system is what allows us to work with one-time purchases, aiming for lifetime access.
If you feel frustrated, or if you're on a tight budget, you can always reach out at ios@mynoise.net. We'll find a solution that satisfies everyone.
Unfortunately, Apple and Google don't allow in-app purchases to be transferred between iOS and Android. The only way we could make this possible would be to bypass their stores, which isn't recommended practice and is very difficult for a small company. Doing so would also likely require us to adopt a subscription-based model, which we strongly oppose.
If you bought the app on iOS, it's valid on all your iOS devices. To use it on Android, however, you'll need to pay for it there as well. Buying both gives you unlimited lifetime access on the two platforms, which remains far more economical over time than a subscription. This "pay for what you use" approach is also what helps us keep myNoise both affordable and financially sustainable.
That being said, if budget is an issue, you can always reach out at ios@mynoise.net. We'll find a solution that satisfies everyone.
The first thing to try is to hit "Restore purchase" in the app's settings. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you made the purchase with.
If this doesn't work, please make sure you purchased the new iOS app, and aren't getting confused with:
- A purchase on our website. In this case, please check the question "I donated on the website; why can't I access all soundscapes on my mobile app?"
- A purchase on Android. In this case, please check "I paid for the Android app; do I have to pay again to unlock it on iOS?"
- A purchase on the old iOS app. In this case, please check "I bought the old myNoise app and don't have access to the premium features in the new one. Why?"
If you still can't recover your purchase, email us at ios@mynoise.net and we'll solve that.
The timer is designed to stop a playing soundscape after a set period. It can't be set when a soundscape is paused. To schedule a soundscape to play later, please use the alarm function.
You can use two fingers to slide across the screen and raise or lower all active sliders simultaneously. If the sound is still not loud enough with every slider pushed to the max, you can also play with your phone's volume.
You can disable haptic feedback in the app's settings.
Yes. Select the "Play together" mode in the app's settings, under "Background behavior". Make sure to restart the app for the change to take effect.
You can adjust the fade-in and fade-out durations in the settings. The alarm's fade-in can last up to 2 minutes, and the timer's fade-out up to 1 minute when set to "Long".
The Animate feature adds variation to myNoise soundscapes by automatically moving the sliders. To activate it, tap the Animate icon in the main player. You can adjust the animation parameters in the settings. "Speed" determines how fast the sliders move, while "Depth" controls how far they move from their original positions. Sliders set to 0 are never animated, so you can be sure a sound you have muted stays silent, even when the Animate feature is active.
Yes, through the "Open in app" feature. When you play a soundscape on the website, look for it in the "Save & Share" section: scan the QR code with your phone and the soundscape opens in the app, where you can download it and add it to your library. This works for community-created soundscapes too, even though they aren't listed in the app.
You can set both a timer and an alarm. The soundscape will first stop at the end of the timer, then start again when the alarm activates. This is useful for falling asleep and waking up to the same soundscape.
The meditation bell rings at chosen intervals during your mindfulness practice or your work sessions. It has three modes:
- Single: the bell rings at a regular interval that you set. For example, every 5 minutes.
- Dual: the bell alternates between two durations. For example, it rings after 5 minutes, then after 25 minutes, then after 5 again. Useful for Pomodoro sessions.
- Random: you set a range, and the bell rings at random moments within it.
myNoise stands out with its unique capability to compensate for potential hearing impairments, audio equipment deficiencies and shortcomings in your listening environment. We do this through calibration.
A simple, intuitive test measures what you actually hear, and the app then calculates how to adjust what we play so that you get the best possible sound. This correction is saved and applied every time you play a soundscape. For example, if your headphones aren't good at playing the lowest frequencies, we'll boost them.
Each calibration is associated with one pair of headphones. The app automatically recognizes which ones you're using and applies the matching calibration.
Once calibrated, you have two options under the iEQ section: "balanced" or "full". If your hearing is perfect but your headphones aren't, "full" is the best option: it fully compensates for your headphones' deficiencies. If you're using good headphones, you won't hear much of a difference, which makes sense. But if your headphones are top-notch and you have hearing loss, the "full" option will probably sound too bright, even though it exactly compensates for that loss. That's because your brain has adapted to your hearing loss and now treats it as the normal baseline: fully compensating for it results in a change your brain isn't ready to accept. This is why iEQ also offers a more conservative setting, labeled "balanced".
Creation mode allows you to build your own soundscape by combining up to 10 sliders taken from any existing myNoise soundscape. There are two ways to start:
- From an existing soundscape, used as a template. Open the soundscape and tap the "+" button next to the play/pause button: the creation menu opens. Since a creation is limited to 10 sliders, you'll need to delete some of them before you can add new ones.
- From a blank sheet. Head to your library and tap "+ Create new soundscape". The creation menu opens without any slider.
From there, you can remove the sliders you don't want, add sliders from any existing soundscape, and adjust the tune and the spread of each slider that's part of your creation.
Once you're happy with your creation, you can save it, give it a name and even a vignette.
We're aware that Creation mode is a complex feature, and we aim to make it as intuitive as possible. We'll continuously monitor your feedback and implement improvements in future updates.
You can export your library and your personal settings so that you don't lose everything when you delete the app or change phone.
To back up:
1. In the app's settings, select "Export library".
2. Save the generated file on your phone or in the cloud.
To restore, after reinstalling the app:
1. In the app's settings, select "Import library".
2. Select the file you previously exported.
This restores your downloaded soundscapes, your presets, your own creations and your personal settings.
myNoise began as a website, crafted and personally maintained by Dr. Ir. Stéphane Pigeon. Stéphane is also responsible for coding the website and frequently experiments with new features, some of which may find their way into the mobile apps. The website not only forms the core of the myNoise project but also serves as its primary financial support, thanks to user donations.
myNoise mobile apps provide portable soundscapes for your convenience. However, maintaining feature parity with the website on ever-changing mobile platforms like iOS can be challenging. As a result, you may encounter variations between the web and mobile experiences.
All soundscapes are created by Dr. Ir. Stéphane Pigeon, the creator of myNoise. You won't find these unique soundscapes anywhere else. The original recordings are either from our own sampling sessions, composed by Stéphane or contributed by myNoise friends helping us with the project from time to time.
myNoise was created by Dr. Ir. Stéphane Pigeon, an engineer with a strong background in signal processing and sound engineering. His expertise and his passion for sound have been integral to the development of the unique soundscapes and the customizable noise generator that myNoise is known for. He is the lone contributor to the website and its soundscapes, with occasional support from the myNoise friends.
The mobile apps are managed by Rémy, his son, and developed by Guillaume. They both studied entrepreneurship together and decided to help Stéphane with this unique project.
Because he is crazy, would be the shortest answer.

All our soundscapes are created from real recordings. We don't use and will never use any generative AI to create our sounds. For more details, please read our AI manifesto here: https://mynoise.net/manifesto.php.
You can reach out to us by sending an email to ios@mynoise.net or by using the "Contact Us" option in the app's settings. Please always include your phone/tablet model, iOS version, and app version. If you can provide us with screen recordings showing the issue, it would help us a lot.
