Sounds and Stories by Lake Victoria

This soundscape takes you to the serene shores of Lake Victoria in Uganda, and was captured by Ross-Alexander, a fan of myNoise who offered to share his original recordings with me. His name should be familiar to you. He already contributed in the past, with Ancient Kasbah, a mind-altering mix of synthesized sounds and field recordings recorded high in the Atlas mountains.

Here, we're just experiencing natural recordings. You can hear the comforting rumble of distant thunder, a common sound during the rainy season. You may also catch the gentle tunes of a Ugandan harp and the soft murmur of voices in the Bagandan language, sharing stories and traditions of the region. One such story is about Walumbe, a character in local mythology, which offers a cultural explanation for the existence of death and suffering. This story reflects the Baganda people's understanding of life's dualities and the importance of balancing joy and sorrow.

As day turns to evening, the natural world awakens with the calming chorus of frogs and insects. This soundscape offers a sense of calm and connection, allowing you to experience the essence of Uganda, no matter where you are.
