Street Chatter

For those who enjoy urban soundscapes, this one is balanced and has that spacious tone you often hear in large North American cities, compared to our cities in Europe. For the most part, it was recorded from a hotel room with a window open on Sherbrooke Street in Montreal.

The default setting sounds denser than the real street. That is simply how myNoise works: layers of recordings blend into a smooth noise bed, helpful if you want to block out your surroundings. And if you are at work and still hear a colleague speaking in the background, treat that voice as part of the scene, like distant chatter from someone passing along the sidewalk :)

While editing the audio files, I noticed a pattern shaped by the traffic lights. I was not standing at the lights themselves, but much further away. Yet each green phase sent a small burst of cars every ninety seconds or so. It gives the whole scene a gentle, natural rhythm. Try the Traffic Light preset to hear exactly what I mean.

There is also an early-morning version, where a group of sparrows add a fresh note to the city.
