From Two Minutes to Infinity

The launch of our Neon Voyager into orbit also marks the return of an old friend: Torley. Long-time visitors may remember his earlier contributions to myNoise, such as Twin Black Lodges or Now Loading...

So, what has Torley been up to all these years? He remains a prolific musician, active in many sound design projects. In his musical compositions, he still strictly follows the short-listening format he pioneered: Sonic Science Fiction pieces — concise sound stories, each exactly two minutes long. You can discover so many of them on Torley's Bandcamp page.

I like how our two formats act as opposites, yet complement each other. Torley’s two-minute stories are dense, structured, with a clear beginning, middle, and end. myNoise, in contrast, offers soundscapes that are infinite, parallel, and interestingly unorganized.

When I adapted his work for myNoise, I added my own ingredients. What I enjoy working with Torley is the freedom he gives me — the green light to do whatever I feel. Yet, what you are listening to now is something I could never achieve alone. It is the result of a beautiful collaboration.

Curious to hear how the original Sonic Science Fiction sounded? Here it is, under its original title Space Station Assembly.

 Social Media

I am leaving social media. What once connected us has become a hollow space governed by greedy algorithms. Even my followers no longer see my posts! My newsletter is different: it delivers messages directly from me to you. And if you reply, I read it and answer. Plus, by subscribing, you show your love for the project and help keep me motivated to create new soundscapes.

Nature sounds are recorded in the field, and musical soundscapes are composed by musicians. Generative AI is never used to create myNoise soundscapes. Learn more here.
