I've been feeling adventurous lately, exploring territories I had never visited before. No, I’m not referring to new pieces of land (see the sampling photo album for that) but musical realms. It didn’t take long after my incursion into Goa Trance for users to ask me to venture even further into hostile genres... ;) So, here is Drum & Bass. Or should I call it Jungle???
If there was a musical style that once felt chaotic and impossible to understand for me, it was this one. But with a little endurance, I found my way. Purists will tell me I failed — and I am sure I did. But every jungle needs a lost explorer, right?
At one point, I got lost indeed. To the rescue came my beloved Rhodes electric piano. To help it cut through mix, I paired it with analog overdrive pedals and delays. That unique, organic tone became the solid background for the whole piece, making it suddenly sound different — like a distant storm rolling on the horizon — and adding to the sense of urgency.
The track is called Do Not Break, for different reasons. The first one, spoiler alert, simply because of the three letters D N B. Second, the composition started at a time when my website was under attack. And last but not least, because the generator feels like the right soundtrack to get things done, like when you’re working under pressure and your only option is to keep going. In those moments, you really can’t break!
If you're feeling that generator sounds a bit packed? Try this: enable animation, pick Quad and speed x8. It will open the sound, and make it evolve for hours!
